BOSTON PIZZA’S NEW ‘THIN CRUST CREATIONS’ CRAFTED FOR CANADIANS WHO LOVE TO CHEAT

10,000 Canadians can sample the new artisan-inspired pizzas for FREE

MISSISSAUGA, ON, April 4, 2018 – Nearly two-thirds of Canadians (65%) take ‘cheat days’ or ‘cheat meals’ as part of their diet plan, according to a new Maru/Matchbook survey conducted on behalf of Boston Pizza, with more than 1 in 3 Canadians (37%) treating themselves to a cheat meal each week. Allowing healthy eaters to indulge their cravings once a week, cheat days are now enjoyed by everyone from pop star Taylor Swift, to Kim Kardashian, to actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. While some may associate cheat days with indulgent foods like deep dish pizza or pasta, almost three-fourths of Canadians (70%) say they would prefer to eat “healthier” versions of their favourite foods.

When it comes to what Canadians crave the most for a cheat meal, 49 per cent of women and 48 per cent of men said they’d be most likely to choose pizza.

Answering the call of Canadian “cheaters” across the country, Boston Pizza is launching a lineup of delicious Thin Crust Creations this week, featuring five new pizza recipes made to be enjoyed on an all-new thin crust. The artisan-inspired thin crust pizzas are crafted with hand-pressed dough, made fresh in-house daily, and topped with premium gourmet ingredients such as bocconcini cheese, honey, barrel-aged Sriracha, avocado citrus ranch sauce, caramelized onions, goat cheese, prosciutto and more.

“Boston Pizza’s new Thin Crust Creations will allow Canadians to enjoy more of a good thing and not feel as guilty about it,” said Jordan Holm, President of Boston Pizza International Inc. “The new pizza lineup is thin on crust but thick on taste. Our new recipes are specially crafted to be enjoyed on thin crust with many new premium toppings not previously available at Boston Pizza. And with these new creations containing much less calories, fat and carbs than our regular pizzas, our signature new recipes are lighter and will provide people with the perfect excuse to treat themselves to pizza on their cheat day.”

Boston Pizza wants everyone to try the new thin crust recipes and will be giving away 10,000 free Thin Crust Creations to MyBP loyalty members beginning this week.  Those who are already members, and anyone new who signs-up, have the opportunity to claim their free thin crust pizza at https://bostonpizza.com/FreeThinCrustCreations The first 10,000 people to claim one, will have their free pizza automatically loaded to their MyBP account, redeemable at their local Boston Pizza either by printing the offer coupon or downloading the free Boston Pizza MyBP app.

“With nearly 400 locations from coast to coast, Boston Pizza is the largest casual dining restaurant chain in Canada and a pizza category leader,” added Holm. “Our loyal Guests have been coming to us since 1964 for unique and delectable menu items that only Boston Pizza can deliver, such as our famous Spicy Perogy pizza. We pride ourselves on having something on the menu for everyone so we know that offering thin yet delicious and gourmet pizza options will appeal to even more Guests, especially those looking for lighter menu choices.”

While the benefits of eating a cheat meal as part of a regular diet remain hotly contested, 77 per cent of Canadians believe cheat days help them stick to their diet. Ontarians embrace cheat days the most, with 79 per cent making them a part of their diet plan. Over on the West Coast, cheating on your diet isn’t quite as popular, with just over half of British Columbians (56%) making cheat meals part of their diet.

Considering nearly half (47%) of Canadians feel somewhat guilty after eating a cheat meal, Boston Pizza’s Thin Crust Creations should help thousands of dieters cheat with a clean conscience. After all, we seem to be pretty honest people for the most part— according to the survey, Canadians are more likely to cheat on their diet (58%) than cheat in a game (8%), cheat on an exam (4%) or cheat on their taxes (3%).

The new Thin Crust Creation lineup is available in small and medium sizes and will be a permanent menu item. The recipes include:

Potato Bianca - Sliced mini potatoes, caramelized onions, goat cheese, drizzle of honey, mozzarella, Alfredo sauce, garlic puree, sesame seeds, pizza spices

Skinny Carnivore - Genoa salami, smoked prosciutto, barrel-aged Sriracha, bocconcini cheese, balsamic-roasted cherry tomatoes, sesame seeds, lime zest, fresh parmesan
