Our Beginning

Although our name isn’t Canadian, our history is. When our founder Gus Agioritis first sailed to Canada in 1958, he had a dream to open his own restaurant – one that would serve great food in a cozy place that people could call home. By working 20-hour days, Gus saved enough money to open our first location in Edmonton, Alberta in 1964.

After seeing the energy and fame that the Bruins and Red Sox brought all the way to his hometown, Gus named it “Boston Pizza and Spaghetti House” which eventually became the household name we all know and love today, “Boston Pizza”.

Proudly Canadian

Proudly Canadian

Boston Pizza proudly remains a Canadian owned and operated business and has been recognized as one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies since 1994, achieving Platinum Member status since 2001.

In only a few short years, Boston Pizza became a hot spot with out-the-door lineups. It grew to capture the hearts and taste buds of Edmontonians including RCMP officer Jim Treliving who became a regular and, in 1968, became a franchisee after Gus asked him to get involved with the franchising of Boston Pizza.

It was there, at Jim Treliving’s first restaurant in Penticton, B.C., that he met chartered accountant George Melville who eventually became his business partner and together they opened 16 franchised restaurants across B.C. In 1983 the two partners made the ultimate commitment by purchasing the chain and became the franchisor of Boston Pizza International.

Today, we serve over 50 million guests across more than 390 locations in Canada and we operate in all ten provinces and two territories.

Boston Pizza Today

Today Boston Pizza offers guests two experiences under one roof – a family-friendly casual dining restaurant and a sports bar with a lively atmosphere.

While we’re famous for our gourmet pizzas made with our signature hand pressed dough, our extensive menu satisfies every appetite. Not to mention our GlutenWise  menu that offers guests following a gluten aware diet plenty of options and our Vegan and Vegetarian menus which offer specialty items like our signature Spicy Perogy pizza or cauliflower crust pizza. Boston Pizza also makes dining fun for kids by offering a Kids Menu with classic staples and fun desserts.

The casual atmosphere, combined with big-screen high definition TVs in the sports bar, makes Boston Pizza as fun for families as it is for teams and groups of all ages.

Our Vision

With more locations and serving more guests annually than any other casual dining concept in the country, we are continually working to maintain our undisputed status as Canada’s leader in hosting group dining occasions.
