Team at Calgary Trail location takes heroic action after Edmonton man suffers heart attack
[Edmonton, AB], Mar 26, 2019: A Boston Pizza franchisee and his staff will be honoured with a Life Saving Award from Alberta Health Services after their heroic action saved the life of an Edmonton man.
In early January, a guest named Alfred French was picking up a takeout order from Boston Pizza when he went into cardiac arrest. Taking immediate action, Roger Brodeur, the manager and franchisee of the Calgary Trail location, and two servers contacted 911, performed CPR and used an AED defibrillator on the guest until the EMS arrived on site.
“Thanks to Roger and his team’s quick response, my dad was in stable condition by the time EMS arrived,” said Alfred’s daughter Jo Ann Komarnisky. “The team at Boston Pizza saved my father’s life.”
With its happy ending, this story illustrates why Boston Pizza encourages its franchise owners across the country to be prepared for health emergencies.
“At Boston Pizza, we are proud to maintain a high standard of health and safety procedures and as such, we always strive to ensure that we follow the proper protocols and guidance standards outlined by the Occupational Health and Safety regulations. Our paramount concern is always to nurture team members with the appropriate training and possess the necessary skills to perform their work safely and act in case of an emergency” said Mark Cowl, Senior Operations Manager at Boston Pizza. “The health and safety of our guests is of course our number one priority, and we’re delighted to hear that Alfred feels better now."
Boston Pizza has also developed a Health and Safety Policy, as well as a program to implement that policy for all employees, visitors and contractors.
